just created a raid5 w/ mdadm 4x 1.5tb = 1tb?

so i started to create a RAID5 array on my homemade server with 4x 1.5tb drives (about 1.3TB) around 2PM yesterday. checked on the array today at 10:15am and found it was done- or so i thought.

according to a nice fellow on the #debian channel, "_UU_" would indicate 2 drives down, 2 up and accordingly sdd1[4](S) being a 'spare' while sdf1[0](F) being a failed drive. the nice fellow had to leave early so i'm not entirely sure what to do.

mdadm version: 3.1.4 31st august 2010.

I'd look at the /var logs.

When you used your tool for this diag you would have noted in the man page something like this.

"Note: [faulty] is a diagnostic personality; it does not mean there is a problem with the array. "

So that is why I pointed you to a page that offers more info on how to gather more information.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the /var/log/messages get reset after a certain point. either that, or, my system's dates are jacked up; http://pastebin.com/D8ee9UiH

for a TL;DR summary: looks like there's a read error on sdf1.
