Essentially the same question you asked before, and didn't follow up on:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-8/jdk-900106/

The first link in that thread gave you an answer, as did the first reply here. Clicking on the Google link provided gives you the answer as one of the top three hits...have you tried to look?

Please read the LQ Rules, and the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature. You re-opened a thread that's been closed for FOUR YEARS, and hijacked it with your own quesiton. Also, Fedora 12 is *ANCIENT*...please load a current distro, and you'll be able to easily install the current JDK.

Kind of, it is : CentOS 6 / RHEL 6 are based on Fedora 12.

Fedora 12 etc. aren't mentioned because of age : Unsupported.

fedora12 has been unsupported for 5 YEARS
it went END OF LIFE back in 2010-12-02
--- DO NOT USE, it is missing 5 years of security fixes ---

but

WHY!!! fedora 12 ??????????

if you must
it WAS already auto installed and will be the old 1.6 version
java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-31.b16.fc12.i686.rpm WAS on the 5 CD set

and would have been auto installed at the time of install
BUT fedora 12 is MISSING!!!! 5 YEARS OF SECURITY FIXES AND UPDATES!!!!!!!!

If you need help with a UNSUPPORTED version of Fedora

Then please post in the END OF LIFE section of the FedoraForum
http://www.forums.fedoraforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=75

to repeat "java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-43.1.8.3.fc12.i686.rpm " was on the last update fedora 12 ever got
mind you to install old unpatched NOT FIXED insecure rpms on fedora 12 you need to point the yum repos to the historical ARCHIVE
-- the 32 bit archive ( dead letter office basically)
https://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/fedora...dates/12/i386/

this is fedora - a dead and unsupported version but...

on the top of the fedorafourm it a BOLD YELLOW link " Fedora Set-Up Guides"
read them

the old and out of date fedora 15 "install guide"
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f15.html

java
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...-f15.html#java

but KEEP IN MIND
the old web addresses in the fedora15 *.repo files are no longer working
you needs to hack them to point it to the moved historical files
