Java plugin for Firefox on mandrake linux help
I am newbie for linux and I am trying to get the java plugin to work with firefox. I have installed java on linux (I can use it with other programs, azureus), but I havent figured out how to get enabled on firefox or mozilla. I have put the command into the firefox/plugins/ folder, java is enabled under tolls, options, I have installed the gcc3 library, but still cant get it to work. I have the latest firefox .8, have the latest java 1.4.2_04, and the newest mandrake linux version 10.0, and I am new to mandrake.
Can someone give me some ideas on what I am doing wrong. I can see this file in firefox/plugin: libjavaplugin_oji.so and I think that is the link/plugin that firefox needs. What is the problem?
Thanks
Ben

Right there in the Firefox browser, under the address bar, there are some buttons. One of them says Plug-in FAQ. If you'll just click on it, there are instructions which actually work for Linux. I did it on my Slackware system today after installing the newest Java version. Check to make sure your distro has all the dependencies, for it seems that sometimes they don't install all the libraries, etc. that you need.
P.S. If you searched LQ you would have found a very recent thread on this subject...

The thread to which he is referring is mine on the Fedora distro forum. Be sure to read the whole thing. There are some recent additions which may save you some grief.

Nope - wasn't referring to your thread at all. That has some weird advice. I meant this thread ->
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=185916
which is in the Mandreck forum...
Your answers to installing java in Firefox - no matter your distro ->

Thank you for your help on this one. I did use the other post you had mentioned, I found it a little while after I had posted this message. I am assuming this was the one. I got it working for both mozilla and firefox.
