Try

ls -F

or

ls -l

in your /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ directory. That is cd /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins then ls -l

Do you see the symbolic link? If you do, but it is linked incorrectly somehow just do
ln -sf /usr/java/j2sdk-1_4_2_06-linux-i586.bin/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

The f in the command above forces the link to be created.

Then after making sure that the symbolic link exists, try opening a webpage that requires java.
