JAVA Not Found Running RH9.0

Hi All. I installed JAVA 1.5.0_01 into /usr/jre1.5.1_01. I see a bin, javaws, lib, man, plugin, welcome.html etc. Unless I drill down into one of these directories the browser (FIREFOX) cannot find java for appelts. If I try typing java -version I get not found. Anything I missed in the install? Any commands someone could give me to test? If I try to reinstall I get JAVA is already installed. Any suggestions for this newbie is greatly appreciated.

You have to set the path to the java bin directory so the system can locate the commands. See here for details:

As for the java plugin for browsers, you need to link jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so to your browser's plugin directory (ususally /usr/lib/firefox/plugins)
