java installation


hello everyone
I'm new with Linux,,I tried to install java by using the instructions in the link below

the only problem appeared in the last step "java -version" is:



neaam@neaam-desktop:~$ java -version
bash: /usr/bin/java: cannot execute binary file

can anyone help me?

If Java is not already installed and you're using Ubuntu or a derivative, I've had great success installing it from here.

java is installed by default
it is OpenJDK - " icedtea"

what is NOT installed is Oracles java
the java that is trying to be for pay and closed source

Unless you need a specific version of java in debian, it is in the repositories.

$ sudo apt-get install icedtea-7-plugin

Which should give you the browser plugin and all the dependencies, including openjdk-7-jre.
