Java

What do I need to do so I can type java code of a bootable linux cd? I need to be able to compile, and it would be nice if it had different colors for different code.
note: the only linux I used is ubuntu, and only for like an hour, so I am newb

You need to install your linux distro on the hard-disk.
Then you can install the JDK (here the instructions for ubuntu):

One way is knoppix 5.0.1 CD . It includes JRE 1.4.2_11
It's run off your CD. However, with kate it can compile very simple programs. But, if you have HDD space. you can download and use eclipse.
tasks: learn the following
partition HDD
knoppix - saving config with 'persistent home'
konsole - (terminal)
eclipse - internet (Help contents)

BTW, knoppix includes gcc too

thanks, the reason I have to run it off a cd is that I will be using it at school, in my java class, (I hate windows 2000, and they blocked right-click!). The teacher let me use linux, but I cant put anything on the harddrive.
