Jaunty Intel GMA graphics problem

I am using Intel GMA 900 series and the graphics are very bad. When I used Intrepid Ibex, there was no problem.
Google searches show that a kernel upgrade to the latest rc might fix the problem, but I wanted to know if there was any other possible solutions.
PS: I am using Jaunty 64 bit

Probably the newer Xorg in Jaunty.

$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg
xserver-xorg:
Installed: 1:7.4+3
Candidate: 1:7.4+3
$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel
xserver-xorg-video-intel:
Installed: 2:2.7.1-1
Candidate: 2:2.7.1-1

The only things in my xorg.conf are

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AllowEmptyInput" "0"
Option "AutoAddDevices" "0"
Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "true"
Option "DontZap" "off"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "smart"
EndSection

$glxgears
4596 frames in 5.0 seconds = 919.194 FPS
4658 frames in 5.0 seconds = 931.455 FPS
4676 frames in 5.0 seconds = 935.117 FPS
4592 frames in 5.0 seconds = 918.220 FPS

Not super fast but more than fast enough to play OpenArena.

Here is what my xorg.conf looks like:
# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# Note that some configuration settings that could be done previously
# in this file, now are automatically configured by the server and settings
# here are ignored.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg
xserver-xorg:
Installed: 1:7.4~5ubuntu18

Version table:

apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel
