Question Jabber and MSN

I'm Running Mandrake 8.2 which came with Jabber that's supposed to let me chat with MSN, ICQ, etc. users. Now the thing is that it's not installed by default and when I install the rpm package there seems to be more that is required of me to do before Jabbers fully installed... Can anyone lend a few suggestions??

Now it says something about moveing a folder or two and running a command line such as make?? the problem is that there's nothing but a simple readme in the folder that I'm suppose to move and when I run the command all I get is error message's :-(.. Arggg and I never wrote down the error message's, sorry :-(...

Oh ya :-) Duh, tiss just simple error message's like no such file or directory.. Of course the directory itself is empy as I've said with nothing but a simple readme...

Help me if you can plz... And thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Use GAIM, it usually comes installed with Mandy 8.2 and its easier to use and setup.. and it supports MSN and ICQ..

Thanks :-).. I'm actually useing gaim right now :-).. And I love how easy it was to run and set up.. and it works great!!! :-)...

I just wanted to get Jabber running because I can't and I fell If I'm ever to learn how to use my linux box to it's fullest I should learn how to install this... Kinda like a stepping stone :-)..

If I can Install Jabber then I'll be that much closer to being able to instal the next prog. that comes along like it...

Thanks again..

Oh I see what your trying then..

What type of file is the Jabber program.. does it end with tar.gz or is it an rpm ?

If so, check out our Glossary term tar here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ryid=35&long=1

Also have RPM in the glossary with some examples too.

Might get you going in getting Jabber installed. Any other problems, let us know.

When you're installing an RPM and other package is required, it prints it name. Not full, but he most important part. So you can try to find out the correct rpm, satisfy dependencies and install your program. If you really want to install it from rpm, copy the message you get when installing.
