j2sdk path problem

I tried to add the path of j2sdk in /etc/profile for my mandrake10. It just sometimes worked. Please help me to find out what is going on. Thanks.

JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/j2sdk1.4.2_04
export JAVA_HOME
export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
export CLASSPATH="."

anyone knows how to setup RTSJ RI's path also?
Thanks!
