Okay i would like to know how to put songs on the i-pod with Linux if there is indeed a way. I have an I-pod Nano third Generation. I plug ut in to my computer it just gives me files and no songs. Please can someone give me some insight.

Well first of all, there is no point in posting this here. This thread is unrelated to your question.
Ipod Nano is supported by most linux audio players:
Amarok, Exaile, Banshee, Rhythmbox.
If all else fails, use gtkpod.

It would be useful if you added the distribution you are using to your profile.
When you ask a question explain what you already tried and what didn't work.

Okay Do you Have any idea where I can get this program (gtkpod)

Usualy your 'distro' will have a package manager and that is the best way to install software. what distro are you using?

I use PC Linux OS 2007.

A brief serch of the interweb found me this:

"Locally installed versions of PCLinuxOS utilize the Advanced Packaging Tool (or APT), a package management system (originally from the Debian distribution), together with Synaptic, a GUI frontend to APT."

Can you find "Synaptic" in your menu somewhere? it should let you install all sorts of software.

If you use the standard kde, synaptic is one of the shortcuts on the bottom left.
Amarok is pre-installed. You could just see if it works with that:

alt-f2
type: amarok

Or search for it in the menu. Once you connect your ipod, it should show up, if it doesn't, check the preferences. Amarok might be more practical, because it lets you just drag your playlists over. gtkpod does not double as an audio player, it's just for transfer.

how did you get your itouch work with linux? it just does not work on my ubuntu box.

try using gtkpod, amorok, rythmbox, ...

else, post the results of lsusb to see if the ipod is detected after you plug it in. also do a tail -f /var/log/messages plug in your ipod then post the results of whatever prints out.
