I don't think issuing the "boot" command at a grub prompt is going to delete your entire configuration of bootloader files. You will need to be considerably more detailed about exactly what happened. Which version of which Linux distribution are you using and what circumstances led to this effort on your part?

Generally issuing that command will either boot the system or if there are errors in the configuration it will not and usually you will get some output with a clue as to what the problem might be.
