Issues with SuSE 9.2 Pro Installation
Hi I am a noob to linux but I have recently purchased SuSE 9.2 Pro and am trying to install it. When I try to install it I have a problem with it finding my hard disk. I do not know what to do and have searched through forum after forum and this seems to be the place to get and answer. SuSE 9.2 Pro is running kernel 2.6.8. I would like to install the 64 bit for 9.2 pro because my machine can handle it. That is the reason that I purchased it. Here is what I have for a comp
Asus K8N-E Deluxe 1G of Ram Amd athlon 64 bit processor 160G Seagate serial ata hard drive And I currently have Win xp Pro and SuSE 9.1 Personal running on this machine with no probs. When I installed SuSE 9.1 personal I had no problems with it finding my hard drive but SuSE 9.2 can't do it. I have tried to do the manual installation, acpi off nothing seems to work I get the same error every time. Is there something that I can do to get this installed on my system?? Thanks in advance for the help |
choose 'manual install' after the suse dvd boots up...then choose load modules and look thru the list and load the modules for your SATA hard disk and things should be fine..

Have tried that
Hi thank you for the reply I have tried that but have been unable to get the manual installation to work. You would not know what drivers I would need to make that serial ata hard drive work would you. I have heard that the kernel that 9.2 is running does not support serial ata hard drives is this true or do I just need to load the driver via manual install?? If you could help me with this I would appreciate it. Thank you

well it detects my brother's seagate sata drives without a problem...so im guessing you just have to load the driver via manual install...why doesnt the manual install work?
|
Well I could not get the manual install to work but I am not sure what driver it is that I need to load. What would it be called?? Is it something to do with the seagate serial ata or is it just the serial ata drivers its self?? I would imagine that it did not work because I did not get the right driver loaded when I did the install. If you know what it is called then that would be of much help and I will try to get the install to work manually again and see if I can't find the driver but if you know off the top of your head that would be er helpful and thanks for all of your help.

uh no sorry...im not to sure about which driver it is...just choose load module -> hard disk - > and select your drive/controller from the menu and proceed with the installation
|
Alright well I have tried that and I do not know which one it is that I need. I have tried it with the nv_sata drive because that is the mobo that I have and that does not work. I Have tried it with several others but none seem to work. I do not see one that says Seagate or anything of the sort?? Am I missing something or what is my deal. Thanks again for the help.

im sorry, but the best place to follow this up is probably in the suse forums...cause if it worked in 9.1 i dont see why it shouldnt work in 9.2...

On that board you may need to d/l the driver for the silicon raid 3114 if you have the drive plugged in to that controller.
From what I read at http://www.cluboverclocker.com/revie...ds/asus/k8ned/, there are 2 sata ports running on the nforce chipset and 4 sata ports running on the silicon 3114 chipset. Maybe try moving your drive to the other ports? |
