ISPs compatibility with Linux

Does anyone know which ISPs are compatible with Linux? I've asked Earthlink--my current ISP--AOL, and PeoplePC. I have been told that none of them work with Linux. I would like to be able to connect to the Internet with my Linux machine. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

most any isp that does not require a software package to connect should work. i.e. if you can setup a dun connection from windows w/nothing more than your username, password, and a phone number, you should be able to do the same from linux. if, however, the isp requires the software to connect you'll most likely have problems. so the question to pose to these isps that you query, is

do i need your software to connect, or can i setup a dun manually?

hope that helps.
good luck.

PeoplePC and Linux

Theres a workaround that you need to use with PeoplePC. Please see posting (What ISP do you use?) for my reply.

I know (if you're in the US) that LuciNET http://www.lucinet.net is compatible with linux.

not sure about on dialup but i have aol broadband working fine under linux, all comes down to the modem :(

I was originally using Earthlinks dialup with absolutely no problems. You have to look into manually editing some config files in order to get things running unless your flavor of linux allows you to edit internet devices through a gui.

Now I use cable. I got tired of the speed of dialup :D

I am using Mfire in the U.S.

Here is a link with all the states they cover.

Tech support had me on the net in a few minutes.

Road Runner in the USA will work with linux.. its all dhcp.. just get a linksys router or something. use ip chains to block smtp relay.
