Question Is website DistroWatch reliable?

Hi guys,

I downloaded my Slackware iso image from distrowatch.com.
http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=09361
I never thought of the iso image would contain any harmful codes 'till I saw some post said Mint installer had been infected.

So I go back to distrowatch and check the given checksum. I've found the MD5 isn't matched my downloaded one. The size of the iso isn't matched as my downloaded one either.

Should I destroy my Slackware and install it again?

Thank guys.

The solution is to re-download the iso, and recheck if the MD5 sum is well the second time.

I don't know what you mean. If you have run Slackware v. 14.2 RC2 then you can experiment on it, in wait for the stable release. Just a matter of caution: if you are not on for testing then you better wait for the final stable release, not the release-candidate (RCx).

Distrowatch has been online for many years. Why not get a Slackware stable release from LQ? We have it from here.

Hope that helps.

Sorry. I shouldn't say destroy. What I meant is to delete the Slackware OS which is just installed in my machine this morning.

I will try download 14.1.

Thanks

Most of the time when your md5sum doesn't match it is because something went wrong during the download and given the amount of data you are downloading, it's always a good idea to check. If you installed Slackware using the iso with the mismatched md5sums, I'd suggest you download it again and reinstall.

Hi,

You could get the Slackware64 14.1 ISO from a mirror; The above ISO contains no source to keep the install DVD small enough to fit.
Be sure to check the downloaded ISO. You should burn the ISO at a lower speed, I use x4 to insure a valid burn of the image.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

Thank guys.

I downloaded the same iso twice, and their MD5 doesn't match.

Now I reinstalled the Slackware 14.1, and will wait for the 14.2.

If you need the Slackware 14.1 ISO then look here; http://slackware.mirrors.tds.net/pub...ware-14.1-iso/

Be sure to get the MD5Sum for the downloaded ISO to check for a valid ISO. I would trust the Slackware mirrors for valid ISO.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!
