Is There Graphical Mode for Debian?
 

Hello, I have just installed Debian on my machine, but it starts with the command mode. Isn't graphical mode included in the package? How can I make Debian starts with the graphical mode?

Sounds like a GUI was not selected to be installed when you installed Debian. But I'm just a newb too, so what do I know.

you need to apt-get install kde or gnome or your graphical interface

The GUI worked fine after I reinstalled Debian.
But I cannot set the IP address. How can I do that?:p

Using Gnome or KDE?

go to either of their respective control centres and look for network settings.

gnomes is gnome-control-centre if launching from a shell

I am using Gnome. I found the Network Settings, but I cannot enter the IP address. The IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address box are disabled.

A friend told me about Dabian, its the one that only installs with the bare minimum? You have to install the xwindow package and then whatever you like with it, Gnome, KDE, or (I suggest: WindowMaker)

Most distros let you select the type of packages you want, GUI or not etc.

If you want to change your settings, untick the use DHCP option (which is telling the system to get the settings from a device running DHCP in your network)

I got it. I have another question. Is there a GUI for the firewall on Debian? I did a little search on the net, and I only found instruction on how to set up firewall with IPTables in command mode.:scratch:

Firestarter and guardog are the usual ones recomended, i personally use firestarter on my work station. It looks like you already know they're front ends for iptables, the firewalling built into the kernel.

Give them a shot, i imagine you can get both via apt-get
