Question Is there an *Easy* SB Live install?

I recently bought a SB Live x Gamer, model CT4760. For some odd reason I can't get the thing working.

I tried upgrading ALSA to version 1.0.8 with hopes that it would get it working. When ever I played a sound it would stutter or lag. So I tried to install OSS. OSS finds the card but gives errors during the test process.

I don't understand what wrong because I have the exact same card in another computer and it works perfectly with OSS. I couldn't ever get ALSA going on the other machine with the card. But OSS worked fine.

What am I doing wrong? Is there an easier way to install the card or fix the problem? It can't be because my processor is to slow.

P4 1.8ghz
1GB PC2700
40GB Linux/ 20GB WinXP
Fedora Core 3 (2.6.10_740)

Is the other machine exactly the same as the one you are having trouble with?

Because this sounds like a hardware problem.

Is the board properly seated in the slot?

Have you tried putting it into another PCI slot?

Have you tried switching the known good card into the computer that will not take the soundcard in question?

Try these things and let us know.

I have two cards...yes I know they both work, the work fine in Windows.

I've tried other PCI slots...no good. I have a SB Live X Gamer CT4760 and an older SB Live 0060 I believe is the model. They both have bad sound lag if I try either one.

Nothing seems to be working very well for me either way. Any other ideas?

You could try installing the windows drivers using Wine or Cedega.

Other then this and suggesting another distro

I don't know.

I didn't think you could use Wine to install hardware drivers...that seems really strange to me. I always thought you had to use something like NDIS wrapper or whatever for it. I guess I'll give it a shot unless someone else has a good idea.
