Is there a way to get Adobe flash 11.6 or greater in Linux?
I have looked everywhere, but it seems like Adobe is giving Linux the finger for some reason. Is there a way to make the one for Mac work for Linux? I tried to open a .dmg file of 11.9 and failed. If anyone knows anything about this, please post a comment.
There are many game on FB that I cannot play because of this problem. And I fear it will only get worse in the future. |
Apparently Google Chrome
( get direct from google , not your package manager ) has a special "pepper api" flash, they 'worked' with adobe on it I have never tried it myself |
with 11.2 r202 the LAST VERSION ........
installing 11.6 use a windows os or chromium |

Thanks Everone!
Thank you all for replying! I was afraid Adobe was pulling the plug on Linux. I guess I better start getting used to Chrome. :(
|
Another thing that works is a VLC-plug-in (must 'activate' in preferences for 'on page load' ;)) Firefox and\or DownloadHelper (I like to speed videos up (VLC) to watch more) :hattip:

@Jamison Thanks for the suggestion, but that is not going to work for FB games. The games are my main concern. The new ones demand flash 11.4 or greater.
|
yep, just tried it at a flash game site no go, sorry here's some older links to try: http://superuser.com/questions/14670...ayer-for-linux
|
Tested. :(f course you need an disk or .iso of pu, 7 or 8. :(

@Jamison Thank you for the link, but it took me to Adobe's download area where there is nothing greater than 11.2 for Linux. Would it be possible to install windows flash with wine and use Firefox with that flash installed?
Also, what is pu? |
I will try that too will know by tomorrow at the latest :) and sorry in the pictures (obscurely like me) I titled xp - pu
Edit\add: like this WINE idea way more than having actual wINBLOWS on my drive :D |
This thread has spawned in me a new hatred for Adobe. Please keep this thread updated with your progress. I am extremely interested.

I'm having problems getting Wine setup right tried three ways now (plus not getting Firefox to run both in and out of Wine) for X
Code:
...@...:~$ uname -a |
I tried Wine with Firefox 5 (the newest one available in Wine) and installed adobe flash through the browser and the browser stopped working. Completely froze up. Yet before I installed the flash plugin it was fine. It's ridiculous! Adobe is really trying to burn Linux and maybe Firefox and Opera too. I'm very suspicious of their reasoning for cutting off Linux users. I'm giving up on any hope of getting firefox to ever run a current flash player again. I wish all the FB games were HTML5. Even Hulu.com uses HTML5, and it's great! No crashes.
I hate Chrome! When I open up a game, it takes 5-8 minutes before my desktop unfreezes and I can actually play... or do anything else. Why in the world would Adobe make that crap browser their go-to browser? it's the worst one out there. |
Over here when we need something that doesn't work on Linux we run WinXp on virtualbox. I consider it a cop-out but if you need it to work you need it to work.
