Is Samba the only one ?

Hi all,

I have successfully set up Samba for my home network. I wanted to know if there are only two machines in my network and I need a samba-like service (basically access some folders from different comp), is samba the only one?

Just asking.

Thanks.

No. Inf fact if they're both Linux or Unix then you wouldn't even want Samba - you'd want NFS. This is the "native" filesystem sharing tool. Also ran across something called Coda FS in one these forums. There may be others.

FYI: You can even run NFS on Windows but its an add on there. Not sure if there is a free NFS client for Windows now but there is a commercial one made by Hummingbird called NFS Maestro and I think MS even has one of their own now in their Unix Utilities for Windows.
