Is Samba the only one ?
Hi all,
I have successfully set up Samba for my home network. I wanted to know if there are only two machines in my network and I need a samba-like service (basically access some folders from different comp), is samba the only one? Just asking. Thanks. |
No. Inf fact if they're both Linux or Unix then you wouldn't even want Samba - you'd want NFS. This is the "native" filesystem sharing tool. Also ran across something called Coda FS in one these forums. There may be others.
FYI: You can even run NFS on Windows but its an add on there. Not sure if there is a free NFS client for Windows now but there is a commercial one made by Hummingbird called NFS Maestro and I think MS even has one of their own now in their Unix Utilities for Windows. |
Thanks.
