I think everyone should use what they're comfortable with. For some people Windows is better, for others Mac OS is better and then there are others who prefer Linux. And then you have another group who should just stick to WebTV.

That all depends on what you want your computer to do. Personally, for me, Linux is by far better than Windows. But then again, most of my computing is internet and multimedia. In my own personal experience, which can be backed with a little research, all operating systems have their "high points" and their drawbacks. You really need to decide what you want to do with your pc and go from there.

Well, actually, I'm not sure....I guess it COULD be better, but it depends on how you relate to computers. Do you enjoy re-installing the OS at regular intervals? Do you enjoy viruses and spyware?

Or perhaps you are a commmandophobe---this is a person the dropped from the sky after the invention of the GUI, and somehow thinks that there is no other way. In this case, you might even want a Mac..

Perhaps you are in awe of powerful corporations.

No, actually, I think Linux is better. We never have any issues with drivers or hardware that won't work.

Windows---proper noun, trademarked by a large corporation. Often taken to mean "operating system, only one on planet". Among the cognoscenti, recognized as "The operating system for those who do not know what is an operating system." (and don't care)

I'm a bit of a "commmandophobe". If fact the single worst thing about Linux (IMHO) is that all the smartest Linux experts tend to be command line wizards who are "GUI-phobic".

Why anyone would want to type "mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom" when they could simply left click once on a desktop icon is beyond me.

Perhaps my biggest gripe about the command line (besides all the typing and possibility of syntax mistakes) is the lack of feed back for long operations. With a GUI you get a nice progress bar that lets you know your app is working and about how much longer you need to wait. All the command line does is go off to never-never land and if you wait long enough you might get your prompt back indicating a successful operation or you might not indicating your app has crashed. Puppy uses a nice compromise, there are no fancy graphics but at least you get status reports in text.

ok, There is a new security update for Windows Vista and Microsoft suggests you install it because if you don't you would be compromising your system... after installation a mandatory re-start (it is what bugs me the most about windows!!) and then after you log in daaaadaaaaa Your windows vista machine is running super extra slow slower thanks to the new security update you just installed. Now can you tell me which OS is better??? LINUX ROCKS!!! :) (I don't have Vista, let me rephrase, I do have Vista only because some of my customers unfortunately have it and when they call having some "vista" issues i have to run it on my laptop which by the way is an Intel 2.15GHZ Dual Core 4GB ram with 120GB which 20GB are dedicated to vista and I don't have any programs installed but it runs super slow. I wonder how slow does it run on other machines loaded with programs???? (special Antivirus like Norton and Mcafee)

I don't know about other Linux users, but my criteria for GUI vs CLI is quite simple: I want the fastest way to do a particular task. This in turn depends on the capability available at the command-line, and how well I know it. With these variables, you'll see me using a balance of GUI and CLI tools and procedures that might make no sense to you. (Show me a GUI package manager that's faster than Pacman in Arch.....)

With respect to the choice of distro, after extensive research, it is clear that Arch is the best. The next time I change my mind, I'll be sure to let you know.....;).

What do u mean by reinstalling OS? do u mean using Linux u reinstall OS more often? and isnt reinstalling OS frequently bad for the hardware? or it doesnt make a difference

With Windows, I re-installed frequently because it was the only way to fix certain kinds of problems.

With Linux, I re-install frequently because I am a distro-junkie.

No, re-installing the OS does not hurt the hardware....
