IS KDE5 a gtk or qt DESKTOP OR SOMETHING ELSE?

Salutations

I'm not sure what kde5 is. When I want to install a package for KDE5, some packages have a gtk or qt in it's name. I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Vinny

KDE is built on the QT toolkit, and any program designed to be a native KDE application will also be built upon the QT toolkit. However, programs built on GTK work just fine with it.

One thing to know about GUIs in Linux, vs. Windows, is that it (like pretty much everything else in Linux-land) is not "monolithic." It consists of several layers of software working together. And, it uses a completely different concept of how to draw, present, and maintain the screen display.
