is it possible to install gentoo without internet connection


my computer is not connected to internet and I have heard that gentoo can be optimized for performance so is there anybody on this forum who has installed gentoo COMPLETELY offline.My CPU specification is 1GHz,384MB RAM,i686 architecture.No external graphic or sound card other than one embedded on motherboard.I have 700 MB iso LIVE cd of gentoo linux installer 2007.

I've done that.

You need to download a stage tarball, there's an option in the installer to use a file instead of a URL.

Have a look for the handbook on the CD, else download it in advance - you're going to need it. It describes the situation fully.

However, if performance is your only reason for you to install Gentoo, then I advice that you save yourself the pain. I am a long time Gentoo user, and I love it. It has many virtues, but the only way to make your box 2x faster is to buy a new one.
