Is it possible for the firewall to block access to my home network?

Hi. I have 2 Vista and 1 Win 7 laptops plus a 8 year old Win Xp desktop on a home network all connected to a Planet 4 port router.

I installed Linux Mint Katya on the desktop from a live cd. Everything went perfect and after installation finished I clicked on my home folder > network > windows network > workgroup and I could see all the boxes on my network and access them.

After I activated the firewall I clicked on the windows network icon but now I get the following message:

"Unable to mount location. failed to retrieve share list from server."

Now I am using this machine without a firewall and i don't know if that is a good idea.

Any help to resolve this will be appreciated.

Thank you

After activation of the firewall did u share drive or folder.

No I did not. I thought that is automatically taken care of by samba. Maybe the firewall is blocking samba?

Thank you
