Is it ok to delete everything in /var/cache/apt/archives?

There is this directory with a lot of .deb files in it. /var/cache/apt/archives

can i delete all these files in that directory? is it safe? They are temporary files right?

You should use
Code:
apt-get clean
removes the downloaded packages from the cache directory (/var/cache/apt/archives/)
