Question Is GCC necesary to install NS2?

I have installed fedora 11.
Now I have to install Ns2. But despite my best efforts, I could not do it. If ns is typed in terminal, I get ' Command not found' message.
Yesterday I read that if GCC is not compatible with the fedora version, NS2 wont work.
What is the way out?
How will I know if Im having correct GCC version installed?

For ns2 , the c++ compiler is a must :

# yum -y install gcc-c++

.. and the ns2 version for Fedora 11 is ns-2.34
( ns-allinone-2.34 ).
.....
.....
Other requirements, Fedora 11 :
# yum install libX11-devel libXext-devel libXau-devel libXmu-devel libtool
.....

About the 'ns' command : 1) cd <path-to-ns-2.3x>
2) ./ns

Or you can install it to a system path, post # 13 here

.....
