Is Fedora a good distro?
 

Looking to migrate from Suse to Fedora, any thoughts on this? Im having probs getting software for Suse for various reasons, and it seems switching to Fedora may solve this problem, any thoughts?
Also, is it easy to install and use in general? And is it stable?

I'd like to hear about those "various reasons" as myself i using SUSE.
Fedora is indeed user-friendly but if I were you,I'd would stick with SUSE.

Both are excellent distributions; all depends on what you need. If you want software for SuSE, ask for some links. There are plenty out there. Fedora also has an abundance of software available.

I used Fedora Core 3 for about a day or so. I disliked it, if you want something similar (and better in my opinion) just go straight up Red Hat. I would stick with SuSE but if you're really getting tired of it go ahead and get Red Hat, or Slackware. Don't fear Slack - the installation is foolproof when you fully understand it.

I'm not a fan of Fedora. For starters it's an RPM-based distro which can cause headaches. Secondly it's huge, quite unnecessary in my opinion, and I've heard it's buggy and kinda slow.

What's wrong with SuSE? Instead of jumping to change distro as soon as something goes wrong hows about looking to fix the problem first?

I must agree, too. This gets a "True that!" from me. I used to be the same way, burning every ISO I could. Then I found Slack...

If RH crashed I'd get Mandrake, etc. etc. I never learned how to fix the problem, I would just run away from it.

Fedora is an excellent distro. Do not fear RPMS. As long as you have YUM on your side RPMS are a breeze. But again it's all about what you want and what you feel. If RPMS are all the hold someone back, just look to YUM. Tarballs are always good (as they are always the most up to date) but IMO are outdated. LInux needs to move on, now I'm not saying that RPMs are the best solution ('cause they aren't). But saying that a distro is bad based solely on that information is harsh.

Fedora has a large amount of software setup for it already (like SuSE I suppose), but if you go to the 2004 polls here, Fedora came in second to Slackware. That has to say something about an "RPM based Distro":

But how many people can actually afford to buy Redhat Enterprise Linux? Anyway if someone dislikes Fedora, chances are they are going to dislike RHEL because Redhat is based on Fedora. In my opinion, Fedora is a very good distro, so don't be put off by some posts here. Try it out yourself, if you like it you keep it and if you don't look for something else.
