is dm-0 in /proc/partitions a hard disk?


I thought the partitions only were represented as hda's or sda's.. what is dm-0. I tried googling.. but couldnt find the exact meaning.. can anyone pls explain..

Let us see the output of cat /proc/partitions
This should give you a good start, though

Well, according to the Linux devices index, major numbers 240-254 are reserved for "LOCAL/EXPERIMENTAL USE"... Strange... What's your distro again? And have you installed some "exotic" software or done some system changes recently?

You can still check in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/devices.txt what sort of device that could be...
