iphone detection in virtualbox

Hi,I am very new to Linux operating system from XP as of a few days ago. I managed to install and have my iPhone 4s detected. That's about it so far,no syncing as of yet.I am stuck at that point. I installed virtualbox with XP. I installed iTunes.I plug in the iPhone and only Linux detects not XP yet. I need assistance now to have it detected on VM XP and iTunes sync. I tried Banshee,no success, and Rythymbox. I would like to sync all and be able to sync music and videos. I am doing pretty good so far learning and getting this far. I am running Linux Mint 17, virtualbox with XP Home, with current version of iTunes on a Getaway Netbook.
Sincerely

Ok,before I started the XP in virtualbox I was able to go into the strings before I went into XP.I enabled USB 2.0 (ehci)controller. Then when I went to start XP,a message popped up.."failed to open session for the VM." Implementation of the USB 2.0 not found,to fix this problem install the oracle vm virtualbox extension pack. The only way for me to start up the XP is by disabling the 2.0 USB.

I installed the new virtualbox 4.3.12 in the software manager.there is no virtual guest-utils version for this? I loaded the 4.3.10..plus the same extensions. Still unable to get the USB to read. I installed the virtualbox 4.3.10 also with same extensions with guest utils with no luck so far. I know I am doing something wrong but can't figure it out just yet. Any suggestions to help speed up this process,I am most grateful

I believe the virtualbox-guest-additions is the same as virtualbox-guest-utils
It's available thru the package manager.
You install it from the guest system

You will also need the extension pack described in that error you saw. You can download it from virtualbox's site and install it by going to File > Preferences > Extensions in virtualbox.

No luck..So far: Installed Linux Mint 17..did updates. Then software manager installed virtualbox 4.3.12. Opened the Oracle VM and installed XP sp3. Then I installed the matching 4.3.12 extensions and installed in software manager..the only guest-utils are 4.3.10 dfsg-1,I installed. Then I restarted all and started XP with no detection of USB.
Something I need to add and if so what is the proper name in software manager? There are quite a few items to install. None of which are 4.3.12. I also installed all on the Linux. I also enabled the 2.0 USB in the oracle XP settings. Does anything need to be installed on the XP part? Many thanks for your help,I appreciate it very much.I will get it eventually..lol. Very new to Linux, and enjoying the experience of learning..but can be grrrrrr.
