IP configuring problem
 
hi.....
i m having a problem in configuring my IP.
every time i provide an ip address, the system changes the netmask address to dns address and it wont even showing the wired network connections.
plz help me out wid this...

what distro (and version) of linux are you using?
how are you changing the ip address? command line? editing a file (which one)? gui?

i m using fedora 10... and changing the ip in the network device control window...
every time i enter the netmask the system change it to the gateway address...y?

If you've just installed the OS for the first time and haven't run 'yum update', you should do this to resolve the problem. (known bug in F10)

Can you get the machine on the network long enough to do an update?

If not, I can walk you through editing your ifcfg-eth0 file manually (please post your current file so I can show you what it should be). Also include what IP, netmask, gateway, and DNS server settings should be... the file is located at /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-eth*
