hey NubKnacker,

thx for the explanation. now, as i see it tajamari is right. it seems to be a problem with the arp cache. on unix/linux and as far as i know even on windows there's a little program called "arp" with which you can show and manipulate the arp cache on the switch. another one is arping. if i remeber correctly updateing should be "arping -U".

btw: that the linux machine drops off the net isn't very unusual as i found out. if windows detects colliding ip's it pops up a dialog box and disables that ethernet interface. linux does not do such a thing that's why the linux machine dropped off the net.

Yeah, we did. Awfully rude of me to not get back to you all. It might have been due to the fact that we just restart the switch now everytime we face this problem. :P We are, after all, lazy developers.

Sincere thanks to acid_kewpie, vadkutya, salasi and Emerson for all your help, you saved me from pulling out all my hair.
