as root run:

ifconfig

in a console to see network related info. there are alot of programs that will work for this search around in your menu's too.

ctrl alt F2

with Fedora Core2, alot of commands wouldn't work from the GUI terminal - I had to ctrl alt F2 to start a text session and the commands would work fine from there. Never understood that, but it was good enough for me To get back to the GUI press ctrl alt F7.
