interpreting smart errors

i do have many a systems which acts as different kind of servers.

when am running smartctl on it to find the status of hdd, am surprised with the results, they are

in some servers it is saying No errors logged..

some server has around 500 - 600 errors,

one server had 5900 errors,

what it means, after how many number of errors what will happen ?

how to use this smartmontools.... ????

Hi sathiyamoorthy,

I looked at S.M.A.R.T. things some time ago, and didn't keep any records, so this is from memory. Each individual hard drive manufacturer interprets the Smart system slightly differently. If you have records of the HD models you are using, you can find the number of permitted errors in the manufacturer's specifications on their web site. Some of them are surprisingly high!

Sorry I can't be more specific.
