Internet works but no ping from console
Hi, I'm trying to figure why I cannot ping web sites at the console, yet I have internet access from most applications. I can ping localhost, and I can ping my dsl router and get a reply -- just nothing beyond my router. My system is running Network Manager to control my wireless interface. There is no proxy, and the ip address is determined with DHCP. There is an unused eth0 interface. Its a Debian system with internet access, and I'm on the internet now posting with it.
Additionally, traceroute doesn't report anything beyond my router. Thanks! |
Just a shot in the dark, but I would check in your routers configuration if there is an option to suppress ICMP echo requests (aka ping) and if it is enabled.
