Hey guys,

I am a newbie to linux.. really want to learn.. thing is that i cant connect to the internet using linux.. i m working on fedora core 7.. i updated my ip, mask and DNS in linux and got connected yesterday..i didnt have to login or anything.. however when i tried doing it today the sites wont connect.. moreover, whenever i access the sites yahoo or google i get a message from sify asking me to download their net client for linux (my ISP is sify).. i followed their instructions too.. but the client wont start on my pc... it says some library or ssl file not found.. i have downloaded the latest ssl version as required by the ISP too. pls help.//

Hi sepultureno666,

Getting your network running with your distro can be a bit of a fiddle the first time around, but stick with it.

Need some more information to determine the problem:
How are you connecting to the WWW (LAN, USB Modem, Dial-Up etc.)?

I don't know what the file is your provider is trying to get you to install. In my experience when an ISP tells you to download some piece of software it's usually totally unneccessary when you know what your doing. I wouldn't worry about that for the moment, but it would still be useful to see the exact error message.

Googling for sify linux internet client led to this link: http://easysify.sourceforge.net/ You may find it helpful (although I think I'd rather switch to a "proper" ISP ;))
