Internet setup with SuSE 10.0

Greetings LQ Forum,

First of all, I am a rank newbie with Linux. I just installed SUSE 10.0 Exclusive on a pre-partitioned Compaq Presario SR1950NX Computer. I'm not completely stupid when it comes computing, but I'm not by any stretch an expert either.

My installation with SUSE went well but my problem is connecting to the internet. I've tried using YaST to get things rolling but no luck. When I fire up the FireFox browser it tell me it cannot connect to Novell.com.

If some kind person has the time to give a step-by-step I would greatly appreciate it. For the record, here are some specs on my box:

AMD Athlon processor 2.4 GHz
250 GB hard drive with 50 GB partition for Linux.
1GB Ram.
NVIDIA nForce network controller

Looking forward to hearing from the fine people at LQ. Thanks, Jack.

First it would help if you could tell us how you are trying to connect to the internet. Via 56k modem, through a network, or dsl and so forth.

internet connection

LQ,

Yes, of course. I'm using DSL. I tried contacting Yahoo DSL for information on setting up my internet but the "tech support" person I talked to had never even heard of Linux. Thanks, Jack.

I'll have to let someone else help on this, the only thing I can suggest is to go to YaST and click network devices in the left panel then click DSL. The rest is up to you. Good Luck.
