Internet/linux/madriva one

Hi, i am relatively new to linux i have used Mandrake 3 or 4 times but end up going back to windows for web design things. Im tired of Windows and i want to go completely linux and can learn from tuturials and all the great help on the forums here. But i first need to make sure i have internet before anything else from there i should be ok. My old computer had no problems when i did put linux on but i now have a new one it is a Toshiba Satellite laptop A135-S4527

So far i have used the live CD and everything looks ok but it wont connect to the internet, ethernet that is. When i try to alter settings it wants me to install dhcp and i cant since im running off the Live CD. My question is if you think i go ahead and do a full install will i have little problems or will it might just correct itself.

Not sure if anyone will understand what im asking i just am hesitant to do the full install not knowing if i will have internet problems any other problems im not worried aoubt ill look up the info on the net if i can.

Please advise what info you need from me to help , or if i need to just full install and go from there

Thanks in advance

Curious... try a live distro that come with DHCP: Ubuntu or Mint.

Full versions have DHCP already. If you normally connect to the internet via a HW router using DHCP, then any distro will connect you that way too unless you have some weird (nvidia say) ethernet card. Check lspci to see.

ok good deal im runningh ubuntu live and internet is working fine with no configuring or anything so im guessing its the dhcp and it will work under mandriva fine Thanks so much

But now i have another question i have tried ubuntu before but when i go to install things from rpm or whatever they all say they wont work(this was on my old computer) do you recommend ubuntu over Mandriva??

If anyone recommends anything else im all ears - here is my level of experience.

I have run mandrake and love it gnome and KDE and hav a tiny bit of knowledge with command prompts. I can read and understand any tuturiol or instructions so learning commands wont be a problem, i need something for graphic design/web design and lots of features so any distro recommendation would be appreciated
Thanks in advance
