Internet Connectivity is a NO-GO Help Please!!
 

I am still very green with Slackware, but I need to ask a few questions concerning slackware 9.1 ...

My internet conectivity is not working. I launch Mozilla but it says host cannot be found. I have a Cable modem and I use a ethernet card..where and how do I configure my internet settings?

Also I don't find my cdrom anywhere? how do I acess that?

Are there transparent windows in KDE 3?

I'm still getting the hang of using command lines, I am a total windows user but for years now I have heard of linux and this year decided to make the change, I don't regret it, but Linux is not easy! Yet I love a challenge...

Is your ethernet card detected and set up properly (check by typing /sbin/ifconfig eth0). If not, go to pkgtool and rerun the Slackware netowrk setup script. Given how you describe your error though, it sounds like the card may be configured OK, but you don't have your nameservers configured. Nameservers go into /etc/resolv.conf, the entries looking like:

nameserver <namerserver IP address>

Your CDROM is usually /dev/cdrom (actually a symlink to the /dev/hdx file for whichever IDE drive it is). You need to mount it using the mount command to actually access files on it. mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom as root usually does the trick.
