Internet connection gone after updating Ubuntu Precise to 3.13.032-generic kernel

Today I got a pop-up saying that my kernel version will no longer be supported and that I had to switch to a new version. After installing the new version as prompted my internet connection stopped working. The version of the kernel I installed is 3.13.032-generic. I am running Ubuntu Precise 12.04 can someone help me out with advise on what I should do to get my internet back?

Path for a network involves a few things.

One is a driver built into the kernel for your nic. Use lsusb or lspci or such to see if your nic is seen. Then see if a module is loaded for that nic. Then see if you have set your IP setting to include ipv4 and ipv6 (or not ipv6). In some cases you may have to blacklist some module.
