internet connection cut off when installing Gnewsense as OS
 

Hello, Last saturday, I download Gnewsense as OS and all my internet connection were cut off (wifi and ethernet) , i have to remove it and re-install fedora , which piss me off but i had no choice , can anyone explain me what happen because i really want gnewsense.

From their web site - "gNewSense is a fully free software GNU/Linux distribution". Which means that they use only fully open source software. Which limits support for a number of hardware devices. Many network adaptors require firmware which is provided in binary form by the hardware manufacturer, and is not open source. It sounds as though your ethernet and wireless cards fall into that category.

The only thing you could do is check and see if they have a lits of supported hardware and change to hardware which is fully supported. Otherwise you will need to stick with a distribution which provides the firmware needed by your current network hardware.

There aren't very many distributions which don't make use of so-called "binary blobs", so the majority of Linux distributions will probably support you hardware where gNewSense doesn't.

If you want a free (speech) OS you may try Trisquel, based on Ubuntu but is FSF certified free. Toothandnail's diagnosis is almost certainly correct. If gNewsense or Trisquel doesn't have the firmware for your hardware, you must choose between the hardware working or a free OS.
If you're concerned about running a free OS Fedora is a good choice; Debian also (with the non-free repositories disabled) is almost completely free (kernel has blobs in it though).
