Internet connection
I have finally installed Debian 3.0 and have it working. Except that I cannot get an internet connection.
My modem is on IRQ5 and COM 5, so I generated ttyS4 by ./MAKEDEV ttyS4 I can now access the modem and get it to connect to an ISP. However, I cannot get netscape to utilize that connection. How can I get netscape to use that connection? thank you; dd |
sounds to me like maybe it's dns
try an ip address instead of a name to see if that's what it is. look at /etc/resolv.conf if there are no valid nameservers, or ones you can reach then you need to correct that. the other thing that comes to mind is firewall |
Thank you, but this next question is even more inane..
What program am I supposed to run to do the dial-up.... WvDial, pon, or what? Do I start it from User? I am using Debain 3.0 thank you |
not sure on that distro
if you have wvdial then I would say use it. if you need a gui then check what you have on it. kppp, gnome-ppp, whatever or you could make your own ppp scripts |
