Internet configuration with Mandrake 9.2

Hey everyone:

I just installed Mandrake 9.2 on my main machine. This computer is home-made and uses some distinct parts.

Motherboard: nforce 2 - Soltek 75frn
Processor: Athlon XP 2000+
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4200

The Nforce2 has a built in Ethernet Controller which Mandrake knows as:

EthernetCard:
Nforce 2 MCP networking adapter

however, my attempts to use Mandrake's Network and Internet Configuration wizard proves to be a failure time after time.

When typing : ifconfig eth0 [or just] ifconfig Mandrake returns "Command Not Found"

What are some steps i should take to get my Mandrake working? So far, this is my first desktop install of Linux, and it's gone well. Just the internet doesn't work.

Network Information:

I have a router which is also a DHCP server. I have a cable modem. Any other information you need to know? Let me know.

Have to ask an obvious question here: Have you su'd to root before typing ifconfig?

$ su
$ password
# ifconfig eth0

...and a more obvious question ? Have you used Mandrake Control Centre to set up networking first?

Thanks for your help

Hey everyone, thanks for your help. I've managed to do several things:

According to this thread:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/120308

ANd now the NIC is configured, before i couldn't do anything, it didn't allow me to specify an IP or select my Gateway, not it does and is recognizing properly.

Only thing is that now, whenever i update my kernel, i gotta do this whole process over again =)

Thanks for your help guys.
