STOP !!!! right there

First "RedHat Enterprise Linux" is NOT free !!!!
you HAVE to buy the required support contract / license ( no if's and's or but's)

second
RHEL5 is aging and is well "OVER THE HILL "
it is the LEGACY hardware /software operating system
you use it on 10+ ( 10 to 15) year old hardware
and the curent OLD legacy support version is RHEL 5.12

it also has NO support for any newish hardware

the Current operating system is RHEL 7.0
https://www.redhat.com/wapps/store/catalog.html
the Standard 1 year SERVER license is $799USD per YEAR

the std. HOME install with the Gnome Desktop
is $299/year

you HAVE TO BUY IT !!!!!

or

use the free rebuild CentOS 7.0

as to connecting to the net

that is a vmware issue
you did not set up a "bridge" for the Virtual OS to use

please read the instructions for installing a virtual OS on your VM

the current version in the old legacy rhel5 is RHEL 5.12

Code:
cat /etc/redhat-release
there is a 30 day "Free trial" for RHEL 7.0
but after the 30 days you HAVE to buy the support contract for 7.0

as to the network GUI

it is basically the same as in microsofts XP

mac, dhcp, and ip4 are the same no matter the OS

but this sounds like a issue with VMware
as in you did not create a network bridge in the first place for redhat to use

i do not use vmware ( i use KVM ) so read the VMware instructions on adding a virtual OS

and unless you MUST ( as in your boss is SCREAMING at you ) use the current RHEL 7.0
and BUY!!! the standard 1 year license -- it is $299 per year

or
use the FREE rebuild
CentOS 7.0
or
CentOS 6.6
