internet access
I am new to linux. After installing the latest version of unbuntu last night, i tried to get on teh internet. The only page that worked was google - but I couldn't access any links beyond the first page. I looked at the eth0 settings but I dont really know how to fix the problem or even what is wrong. Anyone have a suggestion?

Post the output of ifconfig -a and the contents of /etc/resolv.conf. Are you connecting through a router? Can you ping it?

Dont forget that this is all new lingo. I am patching through a router. I am not sure what linux prompt (?) I can use to ping. Where do I find the prompt?

You're looking for an entry in GNOME's menu called "Terminal". On the bar at the top, there may also be a terminal icon (usually, it kinda looks like a black box with a prompt in it).

Nylex,
Happy 2000th post. |
If the Google page comes up, it means the connection is working--it also implies that dns is working, so this is a mystery.
You can see all of your settings from a GUI menu---or using a terminal as others have suggested. What we are looking for is to verify that at least one dns server is specified (this is what you'll find in /etc/resolv.conf) |
ok.I did a reinstall b/c Ihad the time. The connection now works but some pages wont display, like ask.com, any links from pages. Any help?
