internal modem..irq ...help..me...
 

com1 is my mouse [dev/ttyS0]

com3 is my internal modem modem [dev/ttyS2]

i think both share same irq ie irq 4..

this is not causeing any prob in windows...ie both devices are working fine in win98se

but in linux my modem is not being detected at irq 4

...infact its not being detected at all...and

when lspci -vv is run it shows that a communication device is on irq12....[but it should be on irq 4 but then again..read for more info on device manager stuff below]

this might be the reason why modem is not working..

the dialer program in gnome tells that...cannot open dev/ttyS2...I/o Error

[1] port adress entererd by setserial is wrong [is it 0*03e8 or 0x03e8 ..this is really confusing ..sorry]

and yes.. in device manager..my modem is listed twice...really ..bamboozeled by this one

once in the modems column [msp3880sp-u 56k modem] com3

and there is a colum called HSF modem..where it is listed as..MSP3880SP-U 56k modem ENUMERATOR....here it shows irq 12

and...m going crazy...and think its so easy in windows...but lifes a lot like linux....need a lot of configuring...and you are never sure its gonna work alright

i have the drivers ...i transferred hen to a floppy...how to install them ...

Man oh man, you have a Rockwell, huh? I'm afraid Rockwell's are junk and might be a plug n' play (which will NOT work on Linux). Assuming your drivers on the floppy are linux drivers, which means that the modem is Linux compatible, you might just need to disable your com ports (or at least com2) in the system bios and change your IRQ for the modem. Changing the IRQ in Linux shouldn't hurt the Windoze side of things, but I can't say for sure what kind of affect disabling a COM port will have on Windoze. Here's a good thread to look at:

Expreriment, and see what happens. Takes good notes on what you do, so if things get screwed up you can go back.

Anyway, I wrestled with my Rockwell for weeks before I caved in and bought one that said Linux compatable on the box. Even then I had to make a few system changes. I'm not saying to give up on yours, cause I don't have much info to go on, but I do feel your pain!
