internal compiler error?

Hi..

I just want to know, if someone could explain to me why this error message keep rising everytime i type 'make bzImage'. I was trying to upgrade my standard fedora kernel to 2.6.3.

drivers/block/floppy.c: In function `floppy_init':
drivers/block/floppy.c:4403: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See <URL:http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla> for instructions.
The bug is not reproduceable, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem
make[2]: *** [drivers/block/floppy.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [drivers/block] Error 2
make: *** [drivers] Error 2
[root@localhost linux]#

I have tried more than 10 times retyping 'make bzImage' this error was still bugging but with different lock/module. I also tried upgrading to version 2.4.25 but the same thing happen. Does anyone know how to handle with this?

My computer spec : AMD athlon 2000+ , 256mb DDR ram, 40Gb hdd. VIA chips of motherboard.

Have you done a 'make clean' after a failed compile?

To troubleshoot this quickly you can download another kernel (same version) from kernel.org and try that one out to make sure that somehow your original kernel dir's are not corrupted.

Yes of course..
sometime i start back from make mrproper -> make xconfig -> make dep -> make clean. This thing really makes me #$%%^ ...
I 've tried to dload another and still got the same error..but the affected module is not same. I have done in kernel 2.6.3 but my sound doesnt work. So i decided to use 2.4.25(after reinstalling my linux!). Any idea?

To be honest, I don't have a clue. I remember having a similar problem with this and all I needed to do was use another kernel package (because I had fouled up everything so bad :\).
