Interesting slowness (Gnome)
 
First of all, sorry for my english!

I use MDK 10 Off. and Gnome 2.4... Approx. 10 days before there was no problem with my system, however, nowadays when Gnome splash screen appears, in the second step, which is metacity window manager, system stops working for like4-5 minutes... And after 4-5 minutes, Gnome finishes loading but problems continue to occur... Some applications like Firefox or Thunderbird fail to start and no window appears... What could be the possible problem? Thanks a lot!

Something's broken. Look into /var/log/messages (messages inside have timestamps so you should be able to easily find the time you have problems) and check for suspicious things. Are there any error messages in the time the system stops working?
