integrating kaffeine with mplayer

Hi there guys...i'm using SuSe 9.2 now...my last linux distribution was Tilix 2.0 based on popular kubuntu linux 6.06 (which is debian based) in it...the guy who made that distro somehow managed to make users choose between using of xine engine and mplayer engine in kaffeine...so i want to make my kaffeine to use mplayer engine..i have mplayer installed...if you know something...to edit some file or download plugin...just name it...or tell me where i can find a good tutorial about that please..i'll appreciate every help

I don't believe that is possible. The kaffeine engine drives kaffeine, and the mplayer engine drives mplayer. You can install both on a system, but the graphical part you use to watch/play is just a wrapper for the engine. You are basically trying to take the body of a chevy onto a ford frame, and call still call it a chevy!

I don't know anything about Tilix, but most distros (I know for a fact pure Debian can) allow you to have both engines installed.

Peace,
JimBass

Beat me to it, I was just going to ask this too (ty LQ search). I have the same problem on Debian unstable. In the Settings menu there is a an option to choose Kaffeine's engine, which defaults to xine. A few months ago mplayer was one of the options, but not anymore.

I'm playing around at the moment to see if I can find a solution, I'll let you know if I get anywhere.

Kmplayer can use both the xine and mplayer engines (obviously you can only use one engine at a given time). I don't believe Kaffeine can use the MPlayer engine, it uses Xine and Gstreamer.

Found something. Apparently you can use mplayer in kaffeine via kmplayer... it should appear in the engine list if you install it, but alas it did not for me.

Oh and kaffeine can or used to be able to use mplayer because I have done so, but for some reason this has broken or been removed recently.

Kmplayer is not the same player as kaffeine. Kmplayer is a totally separate app that can use either the xine engine or mplayer engine. Kaffeine on the other hand can currently only use the Xine or Gstreamer engines.

Well we can do something, it's not quite as I remember but if you install the kplayer package (not kmplayer) the kplayer option will appear in kaffeine's engine list. As kplayer is mplayer give or take, I'm fairly happy for the moment.
