instructions on how to install aol software on Mepis?

I am extremely new to linux so forgive me if this has already been asked:

as you know last summer windows discontinued updates for 98/Me and NOW most software companies no longer make new versions of software compatible w/ it so since it will cost me more to upgrade to xp [done tried it... had to get a refund because my processor was to small for it]

I thought instead of wasting money with hardware updates on an old laptop, I'd try a version of linux thus I ran into Mepis which I now own!

anyway I need step by step instructions on how to boot/install aol's software on linux? [if possible 9.0 but 7.0 will do :)!]
I'll be running it on broadband so no need for dialers...

I've read online where people have done it but because I am no programmer nor even tried I can't seem to figure it out...

are there any installers out there I can download that will install windows-made software to linux?

if the instructions are to long to post on a forum then I will gladly exchange email addresses with anyone willing to help me on this...

thanks
ap

If you want the AOL applications that come on the cd, you would need to install ndiswrapper (if it isn't already in Mepis), then install the windows drivers (I don't know where you would get them). You would then need to install wine (windows emulator) to run the AOL applications.

Or do it the easy way. For instant messaging, install aim or gaim to connect to your AOL account. For email, use a native Linux email client to connect to your email account. For other services provided by AOL, there may be something equivalent. Just ask if you can't find it by searching at www.google.com/linux.

Thanks I had to go download the rest of the Wine plugins and after that I was able to install aol 7.0! minus a few errors it runs ok! I may try to upgrade it to the latest one if I can figure out how to get downloaded softwares to run via wine right now I can only run them from the discs!

Your help was appreciated!
