installshield error using wine

hi all. this is my first post on this forum, and im a newbie to linux, so firstly i apologise if i put this in the wrong place (shud it be in software forum?). i am trying to install various things using wine, but allot of them give me an error about ikernel.exe. looking on google for quite a long time, it seems to be a common problem, but i havent been able to get any of the solutions to work.

please could someone help me out here (you'll have to treat me like a 6 year old im affraid)

thanks in advance
rich

Problems Running the PAF Installer

If you have weird problems, such as an "error installing iKernel.exe" try some of the following tricks which have worked for some other people (and let me know which worked):

* Remove any Wine config files (some settings from an older version of Wine might conflict with the newer version).
* Have winesetup or winesetuptk setup the default configuration.
* Run regedit-wine /usr/lib/wine/.data/winedefault.reg.

This was my search. It seems to be a problem with newer Installshield versions. What are you trying to install?
