Installs from root, access?

Well I tried to install a development program for mozilla (mouse gestures) and it came up with the fact I didn't have permission to write to the directories. Fair enough after some questions and some very useful help from kind people I found out about the su - command and got root access, installed it from the terminal and all went well. Now however I can only use the feature when I am under root access, not under normal mode. Can anyone tell me how I could make this feature avalible to all levels so I don't have to log into root all the time? Thanks.
